Remembers When Worksheets for Writing Memoirs
This series of Remembers When Worksheets has been created to help guide people through the process of writing their memoirs. They are free to print as many copies as you need to work on your memoir project.
The worksheets were also designed to go with the instructional blog How To Write Memoirs. Feel free to share these with your friends, but do not remove the copyright or html address.

Worksheets
- Worksheet 1. List some of the great experiences you've had in your life. Think of a significant experience you’ve had and write down a few words or a phrase that will remind you about the story. Some phrases that might inspire you include:
- Worksheet 2. Develop just one memoir idea. Choose one experience from your life that you learned something from. If you have completed Worksheet 1, you will have a list to choose from. If that experience were the theme of a movie, what would the movie be called?
- Worksheet 3. Getting a first sentence. The opening sentence of your memoir is called the "hook." On this worksheet, you will work on developing the hook for your memoir.
- Worksheet 4. The Moral of the Story. When you tell a story, ask yourself "What's the point?" When you can answer that concisely, you have the moral of the story.
- Worksheet 5. Connecting the dots. It is time to write your first memoir from the strong hook you created on Worksheet 3 to the pithy moral of the story on Worksheet 4. Now you get to tell the story.
- There is no worksheet for Lesson 6, Organize your Memoirs.
- Worksheet 7. Checking your facts. Do you have the right time? people? place? Have you said anything that could be considred inflammatory or libelous? Check your memoir against this six point checklist.
- Worksheet 8. Jog your memoirs with photos. Sort through family pictures and mark those that you can use to illustrate a memoir.
- There are no worksheets for Lesson 9, Find your voice, or Lesson 10, Rewrite your memoir.
- Worksheet 11. Getting Feedback. Give this worksheet to your "reader" to help get constructive feedback.
