Remembers When

A place to share your memoirs

Beta test Remembers When

We are happy to open Remembers When to our first test users during the months of August, September, and October of 2009. If you have written your memoirs and would like to publish them for your family, friends, and the general public, sign up for the beta test today.

As we complete and refine the development of Remembers When, we need to observe and analyze the experiences of real users... people like you who want to publish their memoirs, family history, or the stories of parents and grandparents. In return for your participation, we will be offering special services that will be unavailable to the general public, including custom set-up and design modifications to your Remembers When site. Set-up, usually a $30 charge, will be free and other services purchased will be steeply discounted.

We anticipate partnering with 25 testers through the months of August, September, and October. In order to participate, potential testers should have a complete memoir essentially ready to publish. This memoir may be of any length, but there is a strong preference for memoirs that are divided into digestible units. These may be chapters, stories, or other short pieces of up to ~5,000 words each. Potential testers must also agree to make their memoirs publically accessible for one year from the time of original posting. After that time, testers may limit access to their site to only those who are approved by them. This is a feature that will be available for all writers when the site officially opens in October 2009.

Testers will not be required to purchase any services in order to participate. Upon acceptance as a tester and receipt of their memoirs, the tester will be assigned a subdomain of Remembers When, like http://johndoe.rememberswhen.com. Every effort will be made to give the testers first choice of possible subdomain names.

To apply to become a beta tester of Remembers When, contact beta@rememberswhen.com. In your email inquiry, please include the following information:

  • Your name, age, and email address. (When you are accepted into the test program, we will also require a legal address as you will become a Web site owner. This information will be kept confidential and will not show up on any public information.)
  • The title of your memoir, if it has one, and approximate total length in words.
  • The number of chapters or units into which your memoirs are divided.
  • The electronic format that your memoirs are currently in. (.doc, .docx, .txt, .rtf, etc.)
  • Any questions you have about participating in the program.

When we review your application, we may respond with further questions in order to clarify. When we have approved your application, we will request further information, including legal address so we can send you the printed terms. We will ask for your selection from the subdomain names that we have chosen for you, and will ask for your manuscript. It may take several days before we have your site up and operating with your content available for use. When it is operational, we will supply you with an email postcard you can send to your friends, family, and anyone else you think might be interested in reading your memoirs.

The beta test includes Internet access to your memoirs only. All beta testers will receive a discount on other services offered by Remembers When, including editing, ebook creation, placement in the bookstore, and print-on-demand services. The beta tester is not required to purchase any of these added services.

That's all there is to it. We'd love to hear from you at beta@rememberswhen.com. If you want to get your story out there for people to see, contact us today!
